Updating Declared Values through the Merchant Admin Portal

This guide walks through updating Declared Values by SKU and highlights key rules to stay compliant with customs requirements.

Updated this week

Keeping your Declared Values or Cost of Goods (COGs) accurate ensures smooth customs clearance and correct duty or tax assessment. The Merchant Admin Portal lets you update this information quickly so your shipments move without delays.

Things to keep in mind

  • Every SKU must have an up-to-date Declared Value. It is essential for successful customs clearance, and it is your responsibility to maintain.

  • For shipments to the United States, the Declared Value equals your Cost of Goods. For shipments to countries outside of the US, the Declared Value is Retail. If you have multiple geographies that include the US (for example, US, UK, and Australia), we recommend entering the US Declared Value in our Portal.

  • Effective December 10 2025, Portless will not ship any SKU without an accurate Declared Value. Orders containing these SKUs will be placed on hold until updated.

  • When declaring values for packaging versus gifts, use this guideline: if the item is outer packaging for shipping, the Declared Value is optional. If the item is a gift included with the product, the Declared Value is required.

  • The Price Per Item field from Shopify or other platforms no longer feeds into the Declared Value. You must now enter the value directly in the new field on your Portless Portal Product SKU page.
